Two convenience stores on Waterworks Road were robbed minutes apart Saturday night.
At about 9:40 p.m. a black male walked into the 3-Way Quick Stop, located at 1313 Waterworks Road, brandished a handgun, demanded cash and then ran. The robber was described as wearing dark clothes, with an orange shirt held up to cover his face. After relieving the clerk of several hundred dollars, he scampered off into the night. He was last seen running behind the store.
Columbus Police Department officers searched the area, including bringing in the department’s K-9, Stanley. Stanley tracked the miscreant along Moss Street and across Industrial
Street before losing the scent in the area of Apple and 7th Avenue North near the railroad tracks.
Not even 10 minutes later, a robber hit the old Roy’s Grocery at 515 Waterworks, but with less success. The stickup man, also a black male, but this time wearing a mask and with a shirt over his head, entered the store and brandished a pistol. The clerk quickly ducked behind the counter and the would-be robber ran away, heading toward Waterworks.
No injuries were reported in either robbery. It is not known if they are connected.
