On Saturday, February 25th, Columbus Police Department hosted Career Day in order to recruit applicants for the department.  Applicants were able to visit with Columbus Police officers, see a video of the police department, have a session with the command staff, complete an application, watched demonstrations of equipment, crime scene technology and the K-9 unit,  They also were shuttled to the shooting range where they watched a firearms demonstration.  Members of the CPD Human Resource department were also on hand to explain pay, benefits and answer questions.  Chief Oscar Lewis stated, “We have had 25 to 30 potential recruits before 11:00. I believe this will be a great success.”  In his remarks to the applicants, CPD Sgt. John Bishop said, “This is a noble service.  The community needs you.  We are nothing without our community.”
