COLUMBUS – The body of an unidentified man was found in the Luxapalila Creek Monday morning.
The Columbus Police Department and Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department responded to the boat ramp at Luxapalila Park about 8 a.m. after someone spotted the body and called 911. Authorities said only that the victim was a black male.
The body was recovered and turned over to Coroner Greg Merchant about 9:40 a.m.
It is unclear which agency has jurisdiction. The park is located in the county, but the city has jurisdiction over the park itself.
