The Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, with assistance from a number of federal, state and local law enforcement and regulatory agencies, on July 5 arrested a Pike County nurse practitioner in a continuing crackdown on opioid abuse.

MBN Director John Dowdy said agents arrested Susan Lorraine Duncan, 59, of Summit on a charge of possession of more than 2,500 dosage units of tramadol 50 mg.

Tramadol is an opiate used typically in the treatment of patients who suffer from severe chronic pain. Agents seized 6,000 dosage units of the schedule IV controlled substance from Duncan along with a hand gun, Director Dowdy said.

Duncan was transported to the Pike County Jail, where she was booked and held pending an initial appearance.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Mississippi Board of Nursing, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Pike County Sheriff Department and Southwest Narcotics Task Force assisted the MBN, Director Dowdy said.
