On Tuesday, Aug. 15 at 11:30 p. m. patrol officers with Columbus Police Department and the Mississippi University for Women Campus Police arrested 26-year-old Columbus resident Marty Moore, following an incident that occurred at 11th Street South and 11th Avenue South.

A 23-year-old Columbus resident was flagged down at 11th Street South and 11th Avenue South. Moore approached his vehicle and demanded money. Moore got into the vehicle on the passenger side and threatened the victim if he did not drive to an A.T.M. to get money.

A M.U.W. Campus Police officer attempted to make a traffic stop on the victim’s vehicle for a minor traffic violation. Moore then started hitting the victim and telling him to speed away from the officer. Moore jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot; officers from the Columbus Police Department and the M.U.W. Campus Police and the Joint Drug Task Force gave chase and apprehended Moore shortly after he hid in the bushes behind 520 10th Street South.

Marty Moore was taken into custody by CPD and transported to the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. He is charged with kidnapping and attempting to commit armed robbery.  Bond has not been set.
