On Feb. 2 the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office was called to Caledonia school after reports of a student with a gun, but no weapon was brought onto the campus and nobody was injured.

According to a press release, the sheriff’s department was contacted after an unidentified juvenile made some “disturbing comments” and exhibited “some disturbing behavior.” Some social media posts made by the student mentioned a gun, and a video was posted that showed it.

“Investigators have no direct knowledge that the juvenile had made any direct threats that would be criminal in nature,” the release said. The child was detained at school, but “no firearm was found at the school and the firearm in question was actually located at the juvenile’s residence.”

It was not specified which Caledonia school was involved.

Investigators are talking with witnesses and looking at social media posts and electronic devices, the release said. The student has been arrested and charged with possession of a weapon by a minor and turned over to Lowndes County Youth Court.
