Investigators still not have charged anyone in connection with a Facebook threat against the New Hope school campuses in Lowndes County, although more than a dozen people have been interviewed, including “several persons of interest.”

But Lowndes County Sheriff Mike Arledge stressed late this afternoon that investigators, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, don’t think this case involves any “viable threat, at this time.”

But extra patrols and law enforcement will be at all three campuses — New Hope, West Lowndes and Caledonia — again Tuesday to calm any frayed nerves and “just to make extra sure,” Arledge said.

“You hate to say no viable threat because you never know about something a month from now or a year from now, but as of now, in this case, we don’t think it involved a viable threat,” he said, adding investigators likely will have to subpoena records from Facebook to help narrow down those involved.
