COLUMBUS, Miss. – The Owls baseball team will host Rust College in midweek action on Wednesday, April 4 at 12 p.m. The doubleheader, originally scheduled as a road games for the Owls, will be played at the Columbus High School Baseball Field.

The W enters Wednesday’s competition 14-9 after taking two games at Selma University on Saturday, March 31.

Leading the Owls offense, Damain Benefield has proven his talents as The W power hitter. The freshman from Ranburne, Ala. leads the Owls with a .446 batting average, a .543 on base percentage, and a .786 slugging percentage. Playing in only 19 of the 23 games, Benefield leads the Owls with 21 RBIs while recording 56 at-bats, 16 runs, and 25 hits (seven doubles and four home runs).

On the mound, Drew Williams and Will Peters trade off as starting pitchers. Williams, a freshman from Maylene, Ala., leads the Owls bullpen with a 4.38 ERA on eight appearances and eight starts. He holds a 5-3 record with 51.1 innings pitched for five complete games, 33 strikeouts, 35 runs (25 earned), and 57 hits against.

Peters has also made eight appearances for seven starts and holds a 5-2 record. The freshman utility player has pitched 35.1 innings for two complete games, 30 strikeouts, 37 runs (29 earned), and 53 hits against. When he is not taking his turn on the mound, the Tallassee, Ala. native can be seen on the field and at the plate. At bat, Peters maintains a .342 batting average, a .412 on base percentage, and a .397 slugging percentage.

The Owls faced Rust earlier in the season and defeated the Bearcats 12-4 and 7-3 on their home field.
