Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office deputies were engaged in a standoff for about three hours Thursday after a man barricaded himself in a home on Will Hairston Road in Crawford.

According to Sheriff Mike Arledge, deputies went to the home at about 10 a.m. to serve a chancery court commitment order, and the subject barricaded himself in the house.

“We’ve been out here before and had some trouble, so we sent four officers this time,” he said. “We found out that there might be some weapons in the house, so we used a lot of caution.”

The Special Response Team was sent out to the scene and eventually went in to get the man about 1 p.m.

“We waited it out for a little while and then we went in,” Arledge said. “Everybody is safe now. The officers are safe, the subject is safe. Everybody’s good.”
