In an unusual case, Columbus Police have been asked to assist in identifying a homicide victim from 1976 that was found in Morris, IL. The victim is believed to have ties to Columbus and Lowndes County. “We have been asked by officials with the Grundy County Coroner’s Office in Illinois to release this information and this sketch to see if anyone can help identify this victim,” said Columbus Police Chief Fred Shelton. “This unidentified black female was found in a ditch in a rural part of Grundy County and we hope that someone in Columbus and Lowndes County can identify her.” The victim is reported to have been approximately 20-years-old when she was found on October 2, 1976. She was wearing an unusual sweater with the pattern shown in the attached drawing. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Golden Triangle Crimestoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
