Flamingle In Downtown Columbus

By Pam Brownlee

Flamingos were all over Downtown Columbus on Saturday, July 22nd. People were wearing flamingo attire such as shorts, shirts, dresses, ballcaps, etc. “Fiona” the flamingo was outside the Columbus Arts Council, waving to everyone who passed by. As you walked along the sidewalks of Columbus, shoppers were able to take a brief break and listen to the different artists who were singing and playing their instruments. Pink rubber ducks were hidden in each of the participating stores. Everyone stopped by Columbus Arts Council to get their little blue bag, and as they shopped, they hunted for the hidden pink rubber ducks. There is a number underneath each rubber duck, which depicts each store. After they find 6 rubber ducks from 6 different stores, then they turn in their rubber ducks at the Columbus Main Street table at Columbus Arts Council. Each participant who finds the rubber ducks, their name is placed in a pot to win a prize worth $500.00. After the rubber duck hunting, a free concert was held at the Downtown Plaza on College Street. Marcus Threet and Caleb Childs of the band Shank & Maim of Starkville, MS, were the featured artists.
